Inside each of us is a magic greater than anything conceived by human imagination — our life force energy.

Life force energy is known by many names — in India it is called prana, in Hebrew ruach and in Chinese Medicine, Qi. Just as Yoga is the prevailing mind/body practice from ancient Indian philosophy, Qigong is the health promotion practice rooted in Chinese Medicine, which integrates movement, posture, breathing and awareness. The word Qigong (Chi Kung) is made up of two Chinese words. Qi, pronounced chee, is usually translated to the life force or vital energy that flows through all things. Gong, pronounced gung, means accomplishment, or skill that is cultivated through practice.

As modern physics has conclusively proven, all matter – from atoms and molecules to planets and stars – is composed of energy. Qigong provides a mechanism through which we can guide and balance the mind/body/emotion energy that comprises the human system and is the foundation for thriving wellness versus debilitating dis-ease. The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qigong have been clinically shown to reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality and enhance immune system function. Qigong has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions.

In this workshop, Angie will teach how to enhance and optimize our body's energy flow through slow, conscious, simple movements that are accessible to all ages, shapes, abilities and limitations. Targeted breathing and movement techniques, in combination with mental focus and visualization, transform tension and stagnant energy, release waste and toxins and decrease mental clutter and stress. We will practice physical movements and postures in a standing position followed by a guided meditation/visualization practice. Everyone can participate, as posture modifications and/or a seated practice is always available.

Class offered in partnership with Yoga Sanctuary. Cost varies based on YS Pass: $9.50 - $13.00 per class
