Summer Attunement: Qigong + Sound Meditation

Within the Five Elements theory of Chinese Medicine and Qigong, Summer is the time of year in which the Fire element is most available — and with it, access to the blossoming, flowering and maturing — of the many seeds sown in Spring.

In June, we move into the first whispers of Summer, which holds the power of blossoming, maturation and the full expression of warmth, laughter and love. We often refer to and sense feelings as being "heartfelt," or participate in a "heart-to-heart" talk, or display a "heart of gold." Many have also known "heart brake", feeling "heartless," or the act of "wearing our heart on our sleeve." Each of these colloquialisms refer to the spiritual aspect of the Fire Element — specifically, the Heart Official. And while working with the Heart Official is a powerful practice on its own, on Friday, we will be activating and elevating heart energy in an even more powerful way by working with the:

  • Small Intestine (discernment),

  • High Heart (Chakra 4.5 — merged heart + throat chakra energies),

  • Back of the Heart (receiving love and loving support)

  • Assemblage Point (embodied inspiration, allowing dreams to become reality).

Qi Gong is the practice of moving life force energy (qi) via cultivated physical movement (gong). it is considered the ancient root (before recorded history) of all TCM practices and many branches of Qi Gong have developed over 5000 years.

Sound meditation is an immersive listening experience using intention and sound to clear dissonance and invite in a more peaceful, resonant state of being. For centuries, sound has been utilized by cultures around the world to bring balance and healing to the body, mind and spirit. Sound meditation utilizes specific instruments, music, tones, and other sonic vibrations. Although there is limited clinical research, recent studies have demonstrated statistically significant outcomes of stress reduction, elevated mood, decreased tension and improved spiritual wellbeing.

The class begins with a 20-minute Qi practice. Participants then settle into a lying position for a brief guided visualization. The remainder of class is filled with meditative sound from crystal singing bowls, gong, drums, chimes and/or voice.

Actual Cost of Class: $30

Spring Eclipse Qigong + Sound Meditation (Double Gong)

Life is ruled by invisible forces. When the wind blows we cannot hold it in our hands — yet we feel it touch our skin. As distant as the Moon seems, its gravitational pull on Earth plays an incredible role in tide formation and movement. As the Moon pushes Earth’s shape from round to oval, we witness the the tides rise (when passing through the bulges), and fall (when passing through the low points). Energy is the same. It is intangible — yet we experience it — as it animates all parts of our being, from each movement and heartbeat to every thought and dream.

As we move more deeply into Spring, we are encompassed in a surge of naturally occurring Wood Element energy (Five Elements Theory of Chinese Medicine). Atop of the Spring transition, there is an infusion of solar eclipse energy.

The influx of eclipse frequencies (between March 25th and April 8th), are considered the most powerful of 2024 and will be felt for the next 6 months. To take full advantage of this opportunity for karmic clearing + solar reboot, we will leverage Qigong and sound meditation practices to build greater coherence in our physical, emotional and energetic bodies.

Qigong is the practice of moving life force energy (qi) via cultivated physical movement (gong). it is considered the ancient root of all Chinese Medicine practices and many branches of Qigong have developed over 5000 years.

Spring Attunement: Qigong + Sound Meditation

Life is ruled by invisible forces. When the wind blows we cannot hold it in our hands — yet we feel it touch our skin, see it move the tree branches. Energy is the same. It is intangible — yet we experience it, as it animates every part of our being, from our movements to our heartbeat to our thoughts.

In ancient Chinese wisdom, each season is associated with specific physical, mental/emotional and spiritual energies. Like the ocean’s tide – where we can more easily catch a wave during high tide – the Five Elements philosophy is founded on the idea that each year, we are provided an opportunity to heal (the associated physical, mental/emotion and/or spiritual malady) when the seasonally-based energetic access point emerges and opens.

Spring is associated with the Wood element and the liver and gallbladder organs; and thus, affects our ability to digest, detoxify and eliminate. Mentally/emotionally, Spring provides the opportunity for birth, growth, regeneration and forward movement toward a future goal or aspiration. Spiritually, Spring allows up to act in a manner that is deeply aligned with purpose and direction. Without a strong connection to purpose, we may begin to feel hopeless or desperate, with no perceived direction.

Essential Self: Qigong + Sound Meditation

Within the Five Elements theory of Chinese Medicine and Qigong, Winter is the time of year in which the Water element is most available — and with it, access to our essential vitality, essence and self-identity.

In February, we move into the depths of Winter, which holds the power of emphasis — emphasis of the essence of life. Without the external ornamentation of leaves, flowers and fruits, trees and plants are bare essence. Trees unadorned and stripped to their core, seeds lying dormant with all potential hidden from view. By removing the external distractions, it is as if nature is guiding us inward, toward our unique essence — where we can reconnect with and rediscover our essential self.

Deep Stillness: Qi Gong + Sound Meditation

Metaphorical richness pervades the yin months of Autumn and Winter: death before birth, stillness before movement, darkness before light, silence before sound. There is incredible potential lying dormant within death, stillness, darkness and silence — which is why it is said the deepest darkness gives birth to the brightest light.

In January, we move move more deeply toward the depths of Winter. Within nature, Winter is represented by the water element and physically coincides with the kidneys, adrenal glands and bladder. Winter influences emotions related to fear and deep knowing; and guides our ability to hear beyond the chatter to more clearly perceive our unique and powerful inner voice.

I am not looking to escape my darkness; I am learning how to love myself there.

Autumn is associated with the Metal element and the lung and large intestine organs; and thus, affects our ability to inhale, exhale and eliminate. Mentally/emotionally, Autumn provides the opportunity for deep attunement to self with an invitation to “cut through,” release and expel non-essential thoughts, patterns and emotions. Spiritually, Autumn is filled with divine/heavenly guidance and wisdom. Without a divine/heavenly connection (Nature, Goddess, Buddha, Tao, Higher Power, God, Inner Self, etc.), we begin to feel spiritually lost, cut off, purposeless and uninspired.

Qi Gong is the practice of moving life force energy (qi) via cultivated physical movement (gong). it is considered the ancient root (before recorded history) of all TCM practices and many branches of Qi Gong have developed over 5000 years.

The Hollow Bone: Qi gong + Sound Meditation

Every individual is a collection of stories.

Much of who we think we are, how we define ourselves, the way we show up in our homes, communities and lives — is based upon stories. Personal stories, family stories, ancestral stories, societal stories – all stories. As we move through life, we often gather more and more stories and ultimately, we build our identify around them. They become our default identity — our ‘this is who I am’ — even when they are not serving us.

What if we could hollow out these stories? And instead of ‘identifying’ with them, we consciously move into ‘witness’ mode (from an energetic perspective)?

This is where the process of Hollowing Out is such a powerful practice! With the aim of disentangling from the continuous flow of thoughts, judgements and opinions — we become our own witness, our ‘Aware-Self’; who can experience the story while remaining free from entanglements and attachments.

Qi Gong is the practice of moving life force energy (qi) via cultivated physical movement (gong). it is considered the ancient root (before recorded history) of all TCM practices and many branches of Qi Gong have developed over 5000 years.

Experiencing Liminal Space: Qi gong + Sound Meditation

In the universe, there are things that are known, and things that are unknown, and in between them, there are doorways.

Within our world, and in particular – nature, there are times and spaces that are understood to be ‘liminal’. In between places, thresholds and vortices that have a unique and specific quality of energy. Many liminal places are known – Stonehenge and the Black Forest – and many holy places have been built upon liminal spaces – Machu Picchu and Vatican City. Alongside the ‘well-known’ locations, there are lesser known and/or dramatic times and spaces that have a liminal quality – the full moon, the edge of the seashore, midnight, the top of a mountain, the equinoxes and solstices. From an energy perspective, these liminal times and spaces are thresholds – that when crossed, allow us direct access to energies that support clarity, wisdom and even healing.

Qi Gong is the practice of moving life force energy (qi) via cultivated physical movement (gong). it is considered the ancient root (before recorded history) of all TCM practices and many branches of Qi Gong have developed over 5000 years.

Qi Gong + Sound Meditation

“If we accept that sound is vibration and that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies. One reason sound heals on a physical level is because it so deeply touches and transforms us on the emotional and spiritual planes. Sound can redress imbalances on every level of physiologic functioning and can play a positive role in the treatment of virtually any medical disorder.”

The cosmic frequencies of May 1 through May 9 will be a slightly different flavor than April’s intense energetic ‘sandwich’ (that was filled with Yang energy). Whereas a Solar Eclipse presents new possibilities — with the intent of shaking life up to move us forward — a Lunar Eclipse creates final endings. Energetically, a Lunar Eclipse will impact us emotionally — as we become intently aware of the passage of time and perhaps experience sentiment or regret..

Again, we can more easily align and integrate the incoming energetic frequencies, when we leverage Qi Gong, acupressure and sound meditation practices.

Qi Gong + Sound Meditation

Life is ruled by invisible forces. When the wind blows we cannot hold it in our hands — yet we feel it touch our skin, see it move the tree branches. Energy is the same. It is intangible — yet we experience it, as it animates every part of our being, from our movements to our heartbeat to our thoughts.

The class begins with a 15-minutes Qi practice. Participants then settle into a lying position for a brief guided visualization. The remainder of class is filled with meditative sound from crystal singing bowls, gong, drums, chimes and/or voice.

Fire Elemental Qi Gong + Sound Meditation

Within ancient Chinese wisdom, life contains a rhythmic pulse that subtly influences and organizes the energy of all cycles and events - both within natural and our bodies. This rhythm is felt via expansion and contraction, flow and control, light and dark, safety and danger. These rhythms are found within the day [circadian or 24-hour clock], month [lunar cycle], season [five seasons] and life [five rhythms].

In June, we are on the fringe of Summer. Represented by the Fire Element, Summer is the most intricate rhythm and encompasses the heart, small intestine, pericardium and triple burner meridians. The heart and pericardium (Yin) hold our ability to feel a sense of joy in our bodies and life, while the small intestine and triple burner (Yang) are associated with sorting the pure from the impure and seperating danger from safety. From an emotional perspective, the Fire Element influences feelings of joy and panic. It also guides our ability to TASTE the sweet nectar of life and to quickly adapt to and transform life’s challenges.

Sound Meditation: Embracing Abundance

June [Summer] Sound Meditation

Within Ancient Chinese Wisdom, life contains a rhythmic pulse that subtly influences and organizes the energy of all cycles and events - both within the naturel and human worlds. This rhythm is felt via expansion and contraction, flow and control, light and dark, safety and danger. These rhythms include the daily cycle [circadian or 24-hour clock], the monthly cycle [moon phase], the seasonal cycle [five seasons], and the life cycle [five rhythms].

In June, we are on the fringe of Summer. Represented by the Fire element, Summer is the most intricate rhythm and controls the heart, small intestine, pericardium and tripple burner. It influences emotions related to joy and panic, and guides our ability to TASTE the sweet nectar of life and to quickly adapt and transform to life’s challenges.

Each organ has an additional role within resilience and wellness: The heart and pericardium (Yin) hold our ability to feel a sense of joy in our bodies and life, while the small intestine and triple burner (Yang) are associated with sorting the impure from pure and danger from safety.

In the Summer Sound Meditation, we will tap into the rhythmic energy of the season and moon cycle to build deep connection to the Fire element. The workshop will be an immersive energy movement + sound experience and will provide takeaway tools to support release of limitations and more easily embrace the abundance of life.

Sound Meditation: Root to Rise

May [Waning Gibbous] Sound Meditation

Within Ancient Chinese Wisdom, life contains a rhythmic pulse that subtly influences and organizes the energy of all cycles and events - both within the naturel and human worlds. This rhythm is felt via expansion and contraction, flow and control, light and dark. These rhythms include the daily cycle [circadian or 24-hour clock], the monthly cycle [moon phase], the seasonal cycle [five seasons], and the life cycle [five rhythms].

In May, we are rooted in the Spring season. Represented by the Wood element, Spring controls the liver and gallbladder, influences emotions related to frustration versus patience, and guides our ability to see beyond the clutter of everyday life.

The liver, known as the Official of Strategic Planning, is the grand architect for our vision of the future. Its companion, the gallbladder, gives the ability to make decisions and judge wisely. Without the vision and planning energy of the Wood element, decision, direction and movement becomes difficult, frustrating and even immobilizing.

In the Spring Sound Meditation, we will tap into the rhythmic energy of the season and moon cycle to build deep connection to self, the Wood element, and Pachamama. The workshop will be an immersive energy movement + sound experience and will provide takeaway tools to support strategic action and groundedness for better living ‘life on purpose.’

Sound Meditation: Moving Intention into Action

March [Spring] Sound Meditation

Based on Ancient Chinese Medicine (ACM), the five seasons contain a rhythmic pulse that subtly influences and organizes the energy of all life cycles and events - both within nature and the human world. This rhythm is felt via expansion and contraction, flow and control, light and dark. Known in the west as the circadian rhythm and biological clock; known in ACM as the 24-hour clock, the moon cycle, and five elements framework.

In March, we transition out of Winter and into Spring. Represented by the wood element, the Spring Rhythm controls the liver and gallbladder, influences emotions related to frustration versus patience, and guides our ability to see beyond the clutter to more clearly put our vision into action.

Qigong + Sound Meditation (Virtual)

fullsizeoutput_6aab.jpg

Inside each of us is a magic greater than anything conceived by human imagination — our life force energy.

Life force energy is known by many names — in India it is called prana, in Hebrew ruach and in Chinese Medicine, Qi. Just as Yoga is the prevailing mind/body practice from ancient Indian philosophy, Qigong is the health promotion practice rooted in Chinese Medicine, which integrates movement, posture, breathing and awareness. The word Qigong (Chi Kung) is made up of two Chinese words. Qi, pronounced chee, is usually translated to the life force or vital energy that flows through all things. Gong, pronounced gung, means accomplishment, or skill that is cultivated through practice.

As modern physics has conclusively proven, all matter – from atoms and molecules to planets and stars – is composed of energy. Qigong provides a mechanism through which we can guide and balance the mind/body/emotion energy that comprises the human system and is the foundation for thriving wellness versus debilitating dis-ease. The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qigong have been clinically shown to reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality and enhance immune system function. Qigong has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions.

In this class, Angie will teach how to enhance and optimize our body's energy flow through slow, conscious, simple movements that are accessible to all ages, shapes, abilities and limitations. Targeted breathing and movement techniques, in combination with mental focus and visualization, transform tension and stagnant energy, release waste and toxins and decrease mental clutter and stress. We will practice physical movements and postures in a standing position followed by a guided meditation/visualization practice. Everyone can participate, as posture modifications and/or a seated practice is always available.

Cost: $9.50 per class
