Within ancient Chinese wisdom, life contains a rhythmic pulse that subtly influences and organizes the energy of all cycles and events - both within natural and our bodies. This rhythm is felt via expansion and contraction, flow and control, light and dark, safety and danger. These rhythms are found within the day [circadian or 24-hour clock], month [lunar cycle], season [five seasons] and life [five rhythms].
In June, we are on the fringe of Summer. Represented by the Fire Element, Summer is the most intricate rhythm and encompasses the heart, small intestine, pericardium and triple burner meridians. The heart and pericardium (Yin) hold our ability to feel a sense of joy in our bodies and life, while the small intestine and triple burner (Yang) are associated with sorting the pure from the impure and seperating danger from safety. From an emotional perspective, the Fire Element influences feelings of joy and panic. It also guides our ability to TASTE the sweet nectar of life and to quickly adapt to and transform life’s challenges.
Qi Gong is the practice of moving life force energy (qi) via cultivated physical movement (gong). it is considered the ancient root (before recorded history) of all TCM practices and many branches of Qi Gong have developed over 5000 years.
Sound meditation is an immersive listening experience using intention and sound to clear dissonance and invite in a more peaceful, resonant state of being. For centuries, sound has been utilized by cultures around the world to bring balance and healing to the body, mind and spirit. Sound meditation utilizes specific instruments, music, tones, and other sonic vibrations. Although there is limited clinical research, recent studies have demonstrated statistically significant outcomes of stress reduction, elevated mood, decreased tension and improved spiritual wellbeing.
In this class, we will tap into the energy of the Summer season to build a deeper connection to the Fire Element. The class begins with a 20-minute Qi practice. Participants then settle into a lying position for a brief guided visualization. The remainder of class is filled with meditative sound from crystal singing bowls, gong, drums, chimes and/or voice.
Cost: $33 per class.
