Seasonal Wellness: Spring Splendor (Virtual Class)

  • Yoga Sanctuary 100 West 46th Street Minneapolis, MN, 55419 United States (map)

The element of the Spring season is Wood. Within nature, Wood energy is represented in the bulbs, seeds and branches which sprout and push upward in search of sunlight. The weeds that proliferate in the garden show the sheer unstoppable nature of the Wood element!

When in balance, the season of Spring offers a dynamic, an unstoppable energy - to get the job done, regardless of obstacles!

When out of balance, the seasonal energy can feel commanding and domineering and we can begin to experience emotional and/or physical symptoms such as anger, jealousy, gallstones, tendonitis.

Series dates:

  • 5/30/2020: Fire

  • 9/2020: Earth

  • 11/2020: Metal

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the liver and the gall bladder organs and meridians are associated with the Wood element. The liver, known as the Official of Strategic Planning, is the grand architect for our vision of the future. Its companion, the gallbladder, gives the ability to make decisions and judge wisely. Without the vision and planning energy of the Wood element, decision, direction and movement becomes difficult, frustrating and even immobilizing.

Functionally, the Liver is responsible for the smooth movement of blood and Qi throughout the body. When the Liver is in balance and flowing, physical and emotional energies also flow through the mind/body with ease. If, however, the Liver is unbalanced, common symptoms begin to emerge: physical muscle tightness and tension, PMS, seasonal allergies, poor sleep and emotional irritability, impatience, frustration and explosive anger.

This workshop will provide you with information and tools to help you transition into Spring with more energy including: Spring Qigong sequence, discussion of Spring energy and associated meridians, organs, emotions and acupressure points + handout for home practice, Spring intention setting and breath work. These are tools you can immediately integrate into your self-care routine to flow into the Spring season with greater ease and balance.
